Sui Gas Bill Online Check — SNGPL and SSGC Duplicate Copy
If your printed copy never arrived, got lost, or is sitting in a drawer somewhere while the due date approaches, you do not need to visit an office or wait on the postman. A sui gas bill online check takes one number and about forty seconds. This page explains exactly which number that is, where it is printed, what happens after you enter it, and what every line on your gas bill actually means.
Most people who fail at this fail for the same reason: they type the wrong identifier. So we start there.
Last reviewed: September 2026First, Know Which Company Supplies Your Connection
Pakistan has two natural gas distributors, and they run completely separate billing systems. Nothing crosses over between them.
Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) covers Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Islamabad and Azad Jammu and Kashmir — so consumers in Lahore, Faisalabad, Rawalpindi, Multan, Gujranwala, Sialkot, Sargodha and Peshawar all fall here.
Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) covers Sindh and Balochistan, including Karachi, Hyderabad, Sukkur and Quetta.
Select the wrong company and your gas bill check returns nothing, even when every digit you typed was correct. Look at the logo on any previous copy before you start.

The Number You Actually Need
For SNGPL, it is an 11-digit Consumer Number. On paper it is usually labelled Account ID, which is where the confusion begins — the portal asks for “Consumer Number” while your printed copy says “Account ID.” They are the same eleven digits, which is why a sui gas bill online check by account id and a lookup by consumer number are the same operation.
For SSGC, it is a 10 to 11-digit Consumer Number, sometimes printed as Customer Number.
A very large number of people search for “SNGPL online bill check 14 digit” and then wonder why nothing loads. The honest answer: the SNGPL system does not accept a 14-digit entry. Some older printed formats show a longer string that includes a book or cycle code, but the portal field wants the 11-digit identifier only. Strip nothing, add nothing, and keep leading zeros exactly as printed.
Consumer Number Is Not the Same as Reference Number
These two get mixed up constantly, and using the wrong one fails every time.
Your Consumer Number is permanent. It belongs to the connection itself and does not change month to month. It is what you use for online lookups, complaints, meter enquiries, and payment through any bank or wallet.
Your Reference Number is temporary. A fresh one is generated for each billing cycle and appears on the payment slip section, tied to that single month.
If something told you to run a sui gas bill online check by reference number, that instruction is out of date for online lookup. Use the permanent Consumer Number.
| Consumer Number | Reference Number | |
|---|---|---|
| Changes monthly | No — permanent | Yes — every cycle |
| Also printed as | Account ID | Bill Reference |
| Used for online lookup | Yes | No |
| Used for complaints | Yes | No |
| Used at bank / wallet | Yes | Sometimes |
| Where it appears | Top consumer block | Payment slip section |
What Neither Company Accepts
Both distributors restrict retrieval to the consumer number alone. There is no gas bill lookup by:
- CNIC number
- Consumer name
- Meter number
- Postal address
- Mobile number
This trips up renters and new occupants regularly. If you genuinely have no earlier copy, no PDF, and no old payment receipt, your realistic options are to ask the previous tenant or landlord, check for an SMS alert if the connection was registered for one, or call SNGPL on 1199 with your CNIC and full service address. SSGC consumers should use the contact numbers listed on ssgc.com.pk, since regional office numbers differ.
Where to Find the Number If You Have Misplaced the Paper
Look in this order — it is almost always in one of these places:
- The top section of any previous printed bill, in the consumer particulars block
- Any PDF you downloaded or saved in an earlier month
- A bank counter receipt, ATM slip, or JazzCash or Easypaisa transaction record, all of which print the consumer number
- Older SMS notifications from the distributor
Once you have it, save it somewhere you will find it again. It never changes.
How to Run a Sui Gas Bill Online Check, Step by Step
- Choose your distributor — SNGPL for the north, SSGC for the south.
- Enter the consumer number exactly as printed, digits only, no spaces or dashes.
- Submit. You are taken through to the official billing system, where captcha verification is completed on the utility’s own site.
- Your latest bill loads on screen with the payable amount, due date, billing month, meter readings and arrears.
- Use your browser’s print function to save it as a PDF or produce a hard copy.
The saved PDF carries the same content as the posted original and is accepted at bank counters, service centres, and by mobile wallets.

Reading What Appears on Your Screen
Most people glance at the total on their gas bill and close the tab. Understanding four lines will save you a phone call later.
Previous and current meter reading. The difference between them is your raw consumption. Divide by 100 and you have usage in hm³, the unit used in the tariff tables.
Consumption in MMBTU. You are not charged by cubic metres directly. That volume is converted into energy units using the gross calorific value of the gas supplied to your area and a pressure factor. This is why two households with identical meter movement can land on slightly different amounts.
Fixed charge and meter rent. These apply whether you burned any gas or not. On a low-usage connection they can make up most of your gas bill.
Payable within due date and payable after due date. The second figure includes a late payment surcharge, typically around ten percent. Paying one day late is not a rounding error — it is a real penalty.
| Line on your bill | What it means |
|---|---|
| Previous / Current Reading | Meter values; the difference is your raw consumption |
| Consumption (hm³) | Reading difference divided by 100 |
| MMBTU | Volume converted to energy using GCV and pressure factor |
| Fixed Charge | Applies regardless of usage; depends on your category |
| Meter Rent | Flat monthly rental for the meter |
| GST | Sales tax applied on the total |
| Arrears | Unpaid balance carried from earlier months |
| Payable After Due Date | Includes late payment surcharge, around 10% |
Why the Amount Looks High When Your Usage Was Low
This is the most common complaint, and the answer is almost always your category.
OGRA — the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority, not the distributor — divides domestic consumers into Protected and Non-Protected groups. The dividing line is your average consumption across the four winter months, November through February. An average at or below 0.9 hm³ places you in the Protected category, with a substantially lower fixed charge and access to subsidised slabs.
That status is set on your winter average and then applies for the whole year. Two heavy heater or geyser months in January and February can push your average above the threshold and leave you paying non-protected rates through the following summer, even in a month where you barely cooked. It is the single biggest reason a summer gas bill refuses to come down.
To see your own status, open your latest copy and look at the consumer category field, or compare the fixed charge line against previous years. If you believe your winter average genuinely fell below the threshold and you were classified incorrectly, call 1199 and request a category review. You cannot simply apply to switch categories.
| Protected | Non-Protected | |
|---|---|---|
| Winter average (Nov–Feb) | At or below 0.9 hm³ | Above 0.9 hm³ |
| Fixed charge | Lower | Substantially higher |
| Tariff slabs | Subsidised rates | Standard rates |
| Review period | Annual, after winter | Annual, after winter |
| Applies during summer | Yes | Yes — locked |
| Can you apply to switch | No — calculated automatically. Request a review on 1199 if you believe it is wrong. | |
Other Reasons the Total Jumps
- Estimated reading. If the meter reader could not access your property, an estimate is used. It normally self-corrects at the next actual reading.
- Arrears carried forward. A previous unpaid balance appears as a separate line on the current month.
- Slab movement. The tariff is inclining-block, so consumption above a threshold is charged at the higher rate, not the whole amount at the old one.
- Tariff revision. OGRA notifies rate changes periodically. The distributor collects the money but does not set the rate, which is why rate disputes belong with OGRA rather than your local office.
Paying, and Making Sure the Payment Registers
You can pay your gas bill online through JazzCash, Easypaisa, any major banking app, an ATM utility payment menu, a bank counter, or a 1Bill-enabled channel. Each one asks for the same consumer number.
Whatever route you use, keep the transaction ID, receipt or screenshot for at least thirty days. Payment status does not update in real time. Twenty-four to forty-eight hours is normal, and it can run slower over weekends and public holidays.
“I Already Paid but It Still Shows Unpaid”
Work through this in order, and do not panic at step one.
- Wait a full 48 hours. Most cases resolve on their own.
- Confirm you paid against the correct consumer number — one transposed digit sends the money to somebody else’s connection.
- If it is still outstanding after two working days, contact your bank or wallet provider first with the transaction ID. They can confirm whether the amount actually reached the distributor.
- If the bank confirms transmission and the record still shows outstanding, contact the distributor’s helpline with the transaction reference, date and amount.
Do not pay a second time to be safe. Duplicate payments take considerably longer to reverse than a delayed posting takes to clear.
When the Lookup Itself Fails
Almost every failed check comes down to one of five causes, and four of them you can fix yourself in under a minute. Work down the list in order before you reach for the helpline.
If you have retyped the number twice and switched distributors once with no result, the problem is on the official system’s side rather than yours. Give it ten minutes and try again.
| What you see | What to do |
|---|---|
| Nothing loads | Recheck every digit against a printed copy, leading zeros included |
| “No record found” | You are probably on the wrong distributor. Switch and retry |
| Portal times out | Systems get loaded near due dates. Wait a few minutes and retry |
| Old page cached | Refresh, or clear your browser cache and reopen |
| New connection | No bill until the first cycle is generated after meter installation |
Filing a Complaint
For SNGPL, the fastest route is the 1199 helpline, which handles supply problems, billing errors, meter faults and safety concerns. Written complaints go through the complaint registration section of sngpl.com.pk, by email to the relevant department, or in person at a Customer Facilitation Centre. SSGC operates equivalent channels listed on ssgc.com.pk.
Have this ready before you call
- Your consumer number
- Full service address
- An active contact number
- A clear description of the problem
- A copy of the disputed gas bill
Anonymous or incomplete submissions are frequently closed without action.
If you smell gas or suspect a leak, do not wait for a billing enquiry. Call the emergency helpline immediately.
Why People Use Billwale.pk for a Gas Bill Check
The official portals work, but they were built for desktop browsers and they assume you already know which number to type. We do one thing: get you to the right official page with the right identifier prepared, on a phone, without an account.
All bill data, captcha verification and payable amounts stay on the distributors’ own systems. We do not store your consumer number.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I check without the printed copy?
Yes, as long as you have the consumer number from an earlier bill, PDF or payment receipt.
Is Consumer Number the same as Account ID?
For SNGPL, yes — the same 11-digit identifier, labelled differently on paper and on the portal form.
Can I do a gas bill check online using my CNIC?
No. Neither distributor supports CNIC, name, meter number or address-based retrieval.
Is the downloaded copy valid for payment?
Yes. It carries the same content as the posted original and is accepted at banks, service centres and wallet apps.
Can I download previous months?
Generally only the current cycle is available online. For historical records, visit a Customer Facilitation Centre with your consumer number.
Does this cost anything?
Every gas bill check on billwale.pk is free and requires no registration.
Before You Close This Page
Save your consumer number somewhere permanent — a note on your phone, a photo of the top of your bill, anywhere you will find it in a hurry. It never changes, and it is the only thing standing between you and a two-minute check on any device.
Check the amount before the due date rather than after it. The late payment surcharge is real money, and the whole point of doing this online is that it costs you nothing but forty seconds.
